I have a drywall master taper. I bought it used, about 2 years ago. I have slowing been rebuilding it as needed. I have the head all rebuilt and it was running fine except for a little too much drag from the wheel/plunger action,so I figured heck, I'll just rebuild the plunger too, as the drag was not coming from the head. Anyway, I ordered a plunger cup from allwall, and they sent me a black rubber one. I put it in and the next time I used the tube, it locked up, so I called allwall and they sent me another one no-charge. The one I had removed was a blue leather? one, so I figured I had the wrong one now with the black rubber one. Allwall said that this was the one they used on all tapers (not what I wanted to hear). Anyway, when I went to take it apart the plunger was froze, I had to take the end ring off and the head off and drive the plunger out. What turns out is that the white fiberglass plunger(under the cup had swelled and would not slide. I hooked it up to my battery drill and sanded it down, then reinstalled with the new cup, it slides real good now, but haven't tried it with mud yet, am looking forward to seeing how it works now. Question is anyone have any experience with this problem?? any suggestions??? What could make hard fiberglass swell?? reckon it could be wd-40, I kinda doubt it, but maybe

ran the tube today on that small job, sanding the plunger down fixed the prob alright, runs like a brand new now, from now on when I change the cable I'll slide the plunger in the tube by hand while its all apart to check the clearance in it and the tube, man WHAT a differance. Still using Wd-40 on it tho, I'll let ya know if that messes it up next time I change it out, gonna take an act of congress to get me parted from my d-40, I've tried pam, lithium, bike oil and all the other snake oils out there, nothing cleans and lubes like d-40 without creating biuld-up. I'll trade some rubber damage for the clean running.
Peace
